What is a frames & time converter (FPS)?

A frames & time converter turns a duration expressed in hours, minutes and seconds into the exact number of frames at a given FPS rate, and back the other way. It is the standard tool for computing animation durations, syncing audio to the timeline and adjusting timing in video, VFX and motion graphics projects.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the hours, minutes and seconds of your duration.
  2. Set your project FPS, or use the quick buttons (23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 60).
  3. The frames field updates instantly with the exact count.
  4. For the reverse conversion, type a number in the frames field and the time fields will fill themselves in.
  5. Check the results: total seconds, formatted duration and exact frames.

Typical use cases

  • Compute how many frames a Blender animation lasts at 24 FPS.
  • Sync music beats or audio events with exact timeline points.
  • Convert script timings into exact frames for animatics and previz.

Frequently asked questions

Which FPS should I use?

It depends on your project standard: cinema 24, PAL 25, NTSC 29.97 or 30, and web or gaming 60. For Blender projects, use the FPS configured in the scene.

Does the converter round frames?

Yes: the frame count rounds to the nearest integer, since a discrete timeline cannot hold fractions of a frame. In the reverse conversion, seconds are shown with three decimals.
